Our beautiful red oak makes for some spectacular hardwood floors. This picture is from our house in Missouri, where we harvested the trees from our own farm, had them sawn at a local mill, kiln dried with a solar kiln, planed and edged, and then installed by us. It was a labor of love, but so incredibly worth it. These oak hardwood floors will last generations!
We decided to screw down the boards to our subfloor with a water barrier inbetween, and use oak plugs to hide the screws. This rustic hardwood floor is just the look we were going for. We finished them with 5 coats of a satin polyurethane. They are holding up well to young kids, dogs, & farm life!
My favorite thing about these red oak floors is that since they were simply cut to width and installed, they have a more rustic look to them. If they get nicked or scratched, it is not going to stand out. This is not perfectly smooth tongue and groove flooring that is almost as soft as laminate, and will show every mark that accidentally gets made. You don't have to baby this hardwood flooring!
